PSYCHOLOGICAL APPROACH by Mark Alvin Manuel

According to Floyd and Sitzyk (1992) and Warner and Eyberg (20002), the parents or guardians are most pervasive factor  in the lives of children. In the first stages of growth and development, parents influence their own children by their emotional tendencies, guidelines, approaches to child development and behavior modeling (Chua and Ong , 1995). Parenting styles therefore create an image in a child that affecs his interest and aspirations and his total well being.
We could see this, the effect of parenting styles to the children, here in the story of Lilia amansec’s Lover Boy. The mother of Rabutniks is very strict, an authoritarian mother. She always imposing to her son what is to be and what is not, even repressing the desire of his son to women which become the big issue. Rabutniks tried to cover up this issue by thinking that every girl he saw is having a defect so that he could avoid them. After sometime, he tried to lessen his sexual desire and control himself until he fall in love with True Jade. This event became the solution to the issue but only for little time because when True Jade died, this became the main reason of Rabutnik’s evilness, he became traumatic, to gain poor self-esteem because of losing the fulfillment of his dream.
Upon developing his id by grief over Jade’s lost, Rabutniks considering no rules regarding his sexual desires. This was proven, when he became a Necrophelic, having sex with the dead. For us, maybe the reason for this is because Rabutniks is afraid of rejecting him as sexual partner because dead is not threatening and cannot reject him. He also don’t want to appen gain the lost of his loved one. Having sex wit the dead for him could fulfill his desires.
